Billings is the largest city in the state of Montana and the county seat of Yellowstone County. It has 28 distinct neighborhoods. The city motto is “Billings Pride, City Wide!”. Tribes of the Crow Nation have called the Billings area home since around 1700. But it was not till the summer of 1806 that European explorers of the Lewis and Clark expedition came through the area. And it would not be until 1877 that the community that would one day be Billings was founded. The city was later incorporated in 1882. The city is named in honor of Frederick H. Billings, the president of the Northern Pacific Railway. The town was the western trailhead of the railroad company. In its early history the town grew from three small buildings to a town of over 2000 in three short months. Over the years the community grew into the thriving metropolis we know today.
